Greg Cox

From the Journal-News

COX, Gregory age 56, passed away at his residence on Sunday, May 5, 2013. He was born in Hamilton on August 29, 1956 to Joseph and Doris (Gingrich) Cox. After many years together, on December 1, 2006 in Trenton, Greg became one with his bride, Pamela Winkler, and they shared a deep bond and love for Christ, staying committed to perform the services God called them to do. He received his Bachelors Degree in Social Work from Miami University in 1995 and was employed at the Lebanon Correctional Institute as a Chemical Dependency Counselor. He enjoyed riding on his Harley Davidson motorcycle, was an avid sports fan, and loved his dogs, Samson, Delilah, and Milo. Greg was a compassionate person, and as a licensed Social Worker and Counselor he shared a unique bond with those he helped, and came to believe that he was called by God to do this work. In Greg's own words,"I loved my life, my family and friends, and I always tried to remain a humble man, I always considered myself blessed, always thankful, and very grateful for everything I had." Greg knew the importance of forgiveness. He had hoped for a reconciliation with his daughter, and although that never happened, he harbored no bitterness, and always loved her. He is survived by his wife, Pamela Winkler Cox; his mother, Doris Castator; a daughter, Shawna Hoover; a brother, Mark (Judy Odell) Cox; a niece, Michelle Cox; a mother-in-law, Treva (Effie Mae) Winkler; a sister-in-law, Patty Roark; a nephew, Dylan Roark; a step-son, Chris (Christine) Johnson; 3 step-grandchildren, Ethan, Jacob, and Chase Johnson; a special friend, Rae Jean Johnson; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph S. Cox; his beloved stepfather, Howard E. Castator; a father-in-law, Kenneth Winkler; a brother-in-law, Regan Roark; and a step-son, Gary Lee Johnson Jr. Funeral service will be held at Brown Dawson Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Santo Landerer officiating. Burial will follow at Springdale Cemetery in Reily. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 10, 2013 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
